On the rainy Sunday 25th of January 2004 we decided to do a long day tour to the Jenolan Caves (alternative site) , about 3 hours west of Sydney. We made a booking in advance at 02 6359 3311 since it was a busy long weekend.
The caves are very impressive indeed. Large and with beautifull formations and colors. We took the guided tour of the Lucas tour, an 1 1/2 hour 'sampler' of some of the best chambers.
Unfortunately the rain was pouring down by the time we got out, so we didn't explore the many walks in the area. We'll save them for next time.
On our way back to Sydney we briefly stopped at the Hartley historical site and at Blackheat for a very misty Evans lookout. We also stopped for dinner in Katoomba, a town that's managed to maintain a lot of 'mountain station' charm despite beeing quite touristy.
